The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate northeasterly winds. Freshening on the coast. Coastal fogs, but weather otherwise fine and cool. Seas slight. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to fresh north-easterly . winds. Weather mainly fair, but becoming unsettled later in the south. Seas moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;— For the most part fair to fine, with drizzle. or rain in the far north, however, and possibly extending as far as the Waikato daring the next 24 hours. Conditions becoming unsettled later also in the far south-west. Frosts and morning fogs are again likely, but temperatures are rising slowly. An intense anti-cyclone still covers the Dominion, but an extensive disturbance over the western Tasman sea is beginning to advance eastwards. Winds—From a north-easterly quarter, becoming general, strong in force in the Auckland Peninsula, elsewhere light but freshening gradually. Seas, New Zealand waters—Rough north of Whangarei, slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman sea>—Moderate north-east winds, and slight to moderate , seas; but winds and sea Increasing slowly, from the west. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Although the sun shone,..the day was bitterly cold in Christchurch, with a frCsh north-easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 46 degrees. The barometer was falling very slowly. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and a fresh north-east wind was blowing.
