WEEKLY DAY OF PRAYER ADVOCATED
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS, Sir,—l feel that I am voicing the desire of a large section of the cpmihunity when I ask those responsible for organising the United Day of Prayer at the Cathedral to. continue the service as initiated yesterday each Wednesday for the duration of the war. The whole-hearted response to it is proof of the need of it, and would pro-, vide an opportunity for the churches to’ wdrk together in their efforts to lead the people to seek the guidance of God, which would bear fruit in after days. The vital need of the hour is a “Back to God” Movement sponsored by the churches. When we, as a nation—made up of individuals —realise - our . need of God arid turn to Him in penitence and prayer, rededicating ourselves to Him and to His Service, pouring out our hearts to Him in prayer and supplication, we will receive the assurance that “the effectual fervent prayer of a< righteous man availeth much.” And having prayed, we shall be able to view with confidence the outcome of the present struggle. And right Is might, since God'is God, And right the day must win; To doubt would be disloyalty. To falter, would be sin. —Yours, etc.. ETHEL. M. JENNINGS. June 20. 1940.
