TROTTING NOTES
Metropolitan Trotting Club The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has isSued the three-day programme for its August meeting. Though the stake money is up to expectations, the owners of the champion racehorses have been offered little encouragement. Apparently hoi'ses like Parisienne, King’s Play and Lucky Jack may well be left out of commission for some months, for the opportunities offering at present are few. The club at this stage is apparently not prepared to stage at each meeting a Free-for-all which in itself would be a popular innovation. Methven Trotting Club The annual report issued by the Methven Trotting Club, to be submitted to members on June 24, says the club passed through another successful year. Nominations received for the last meeting totalled 200, against 193 in 1939. The totalisator handled £17,397 10s, against £17,205 10s for the previous year, and the gate money showed a decrease. The renewal and repairs to the club’s property had been considerable, and the club had consolidated its position regarding the property and had paid off £767 16s lid, rearranging its mortgages. The question of still reducing its liabilities is under consideration. In the balance-sheet, the principal items on the credit side receipts from all sources amount to £4427 7s Bd, together with a credit balance carried forward of £1419 9s 7d, and total £5846 17s 3d. The expenditure shows; —Stakes £1395 18s (net), taxes £I7BO 16s, the balance being £2142 3s 7d. The principal items of this, including mortgage reduction £767 16s lid, and an interest free loan to the Government for the war expenses fund of £250. leave a credit balance of £527 19s Bd. In the statement of assets and liabilities, assets are shown at £6719 7s Id. and liabilities £2015, the balance of assets over liabilities being £4704 7s Id. For the first time there will be no election for officers. Those continuing in office are:—President, Mr T. S. Harrison; vice-nresidents, Messrs H. Green and C. Goodwin; committee. Messrs Geo. Kelly. J. McCloy, J. H. McKendry. J. S. McDonald, Jas. Campbell, A. E. Henderson, L. L. Richards, J. Wootton, Jas. McAnulty, S. M. Jackman. S. G. Lemon, S. Thompson. F. Thompson, J. O’Connell. A Promising Two-year-old A two-year-old by Sandydale from Jessie Keith is showing promise. His sire. Sandydale, 2min IJsec, was the champion three-year-old pacer of his year, 1936, in America. Sandydale is by the world’s leading pacing sire, Abbedale, 2min llsec. Abbedale was by The Abbe, 2min 4sec, sire of Abbacy, the dam of Greyhound. The two-year-old is a member of W.
