ALIEN IMMIGRANTS IN DOMINION
REMIT PASSED BY DAIRY CONFERENCE [From Our Own Reporter.] . TIMARU, June 20. “Hitler puts such people behind wires, and it is time we did likewise,” said Mr H. C. Pullar (Otautau), when moving a remit at the annual conference of the South Island Dairy Association to-day relating to alien immigrants in the Dominion. The remit was: That this conference, representative of the dairy farmers throughout the South Island, having in view the large number of immigrants of foreign origin who have become domiciled within our country within recent years and being alarmed by the treachery which has taken place through foreign residents in neutral countries which have been attacked by our enemy, earnestly urges the Government to examine the records of all residents of foreign birth and to take immediate and effective steps to control the actions of all those suspected of holding views subversive to the welfare of our Dominion or our Empire. Mr Pullar said that New Zealanders had to work harder now, and did not want to be hindered by aliens. Britain was in the tightest corner she had ever been in, and though he had no doubt that she would win through, at the same time she would have to put up a hard fight. The remit was seconded by Mr W. Carswell and carried.
