Mr A. J. Murdoch, a member of the New Zealand Dairy Board, arrived in Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. The Mayor of Balclutha, Mr J. H. Stevenson, has joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force, being posted to Levin. The dean of the medical faculty (Dr. C. E. Hercus) notified the last meeting of the council of the Otago University that £3OO had been collected by the graduates of the Medical School to commemorate the services of Dr. D. W. Carmalt Jones and Dr. F. Fitchett, who have recently retired from professorships in the university. They desired that the sum be invested and the interest used to purchase books for the medical library. The request was agreed to and it was decided to thank the graduates for their generous gift.
