RUGBY, June B. “The people of Czechoslovakia will bide their time, and when they see Germany beginning to ’stagger under the strain of war and when they judge the moment opportune they will rise as they did in the last war and strangle their temporary masters and once more erect a free country in the centre of Europe,’’ said the Minister for Information (Mr Duff Cooper), broadcasting to the Czech people. The Allies, he said, had as their supporters not only all those nations that were still free, but all those peoples who loved freedom, of whom there were many millions in Czechoslovakia, Austriar Poland, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, and, indeed, in Germany itself. MEMORIAL TO JOAN OF ARC AMERICANS PRESENT ALTAR LONDON, June 8. A historic French triumph was recalled to-day at the little town of Domremy, birthplace of Joan of Arc, when an altar, presented by Americans, was unveiled by the United States Ambassador to Prance- (Mr William Bullitt). It was- hoped that the militant spirit which, under Joan of Arc, drove the English invaders from France, would once again lead France to victory over the invaders, he said. Mr Bullitt added: “While the invader is killing men, women, and children, before him stands the spirit of Joan of Arc, which extends over the whole world, where every civilised man is praying for victory.” The Ambassador then placed a white rose before the effigy of Joan of Arc, INFLUX OF CZECH REFUGEES REPORTED PROTEST BY DOMINIONS LONDON, June 9. The "Sunday Dispatch” states that Australian and New Zealand official representatives have protested against the immigration of Czech refugees of military age to Australia and New Zealand, One wealthy young man, taken off a P. and O. liner at Marseilles, was ordered to fight. These refugees have taken jobs abroad which Empire volunteers have vacated. MORE CHILDREN TO BE EVACUATED LONDON, .Jung 9More than 120,000 children are to be evacuated from Greater London. The move will begin on Thursday, and it will take six days before the exodus is completed. The Ministry of Health said that the Government considered the move could not be delayed any longer in view of the danger of enemy bombing, attacks. The children will be sent to Cornwall, Wales, Somerset, and Devon. In the last three weeks, 50,000 children have been evacuated from the East. Coast, but the new move will be the biggest since last September. HOLIDAY ON KING’S BIRTHDAY AUSTRALIAN CABINET’S DECISION (Received , Jupe TO, 2 p.m.) 1 MELBOURNE, June 10. The Federal Cabinet has'reversed its decision regarding the King'-s Birthday holiday and now the usual holiday will be nbserved except in munitions works and those completing defence works. The Prime Minister (Mr R. G. Menzies) said the states had been consulted on the proposal to cancel the holiday, but it had not been possible to arrange a common policy.'
