OBITUARY

MISS JANE MOWBRAY (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, April 26. The death has occurred of Miss Jane Anna Mowbray, who was foe many years Auckland president of the Victoria League. She was in her eightyseventh year. The Order of the British Empire was conferred on Miss Mowbray by the King in 1934. In 1939 she was made an honorary life president of the league as & tribute to her work. GIFT PARTIES More than 100 guests attended an enjoyable dance held in the assembly hall of the Linwood Avenue School in honour of Miss Iris Connor, whose marriage will take place this week. ' Miss Connor’s three sisters, Mrs M. Watson, Mrs J. D’Arcy, and Miss Eileen Connor, were hostesses. “Kitchen” gifts were presented to the guest of honour. Mr M. Watson was master of ceremonies. Novelty dances were wdh by Mr and Mrs C. F. Greenland, Miss Rogers and partner, Miss M. Norton and Mr D. Connor. Mrs G. Hartnell, “The Willows,” Culverden, was hostess at an afternoon party to honour Miss Nancy Mackenzie, whose marriage will take place shortly. Those present were Mesdames J. H. Mackenzie, L. R. C.
