GERMAN CONVOY ATTACKED

Success for British i Submarines

TWO TRANSPORTS TORPEDOED (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (Received A>,ril 21, 9.10 p.m.) LONDON, April 21. A communique issued in London states: “Our submarines attacked an enemy convoy. Two transports were hit by torpedoes. Three German aeroplanes were shot down during attacks on our naval units and transports, but the enemy did net register a hit. “The Admiralty and War Office declare that a Berlin radio report that a transport wUs sunk or damaged off the Norwegian coast is untrue.” Berlin messages say that according to the Berlin radio, the Official German News Agency claims that two British transports and one cruiser were directly hit during an air raid. The report says that the attacks occurred as the transports were preparing to disembark troops, many of whom jumped into the water and tried to swim ashore. The Official German News Agehcy claims that German aeroplanes, while repelling British attempt. 1 to land at Romsdal fjord, near Molde, sank a British cruiser, set on fire and sank a \ 15,000-ton troopship, and also successfully bombed British troops who landed at -Andenes, off Narvik. This may be a new version of last night’s claims, which the Allies officially denied. It is officially stated that the British destroyer Eclipse, which was damaged by a “near miss" in a bomb attack, is now at her base. "German aeroplanes dived low over us, dropping a salvo of bombs,” said a, member of the crew of the Eclipse. “One burst alongside and caused some casualties, and the Eclipse listed. A warship took off part of the crew and another warship took-the Eclipse in tow.”
