HOTEL DESTROYED BY FIRE

(PBBSS 4SSOCI*HOB rELEORiIII.) GISBORNE, April 21. The Kawakawa Hotel, at Te Araroa, was destroyed by fire last night. It was a wooden building of 30 to 40 rooms. The premises were owned by Mr D. J. Barry and the licensee was Mr H. Askew. The origin of the outbreak is unknown, but when discovered at about 9 p.m., the flames had too strong a hold to give the fire-fighters a chance. , The building was a landmark on the East Coast. The older portion was built nearly 40 years ago, and substantial tworstoreyed additions were erected 25 years ago.
