NEW ZEALANDERS FOR NAVY
TO JOIN UP FOR THE DURATION TEN YACHTSMEN SELECTED (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, April 21. Details of naval personnel being sent from New Zealand to join the Royal Navy for the duration of the war were announced to-night. The Hon. F. Jones, Minister ‘ for Defence, said that the naval draft would include 250 officers and men of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, 50 technical ratings specially entered for the Royal Navy, 80 Imperial ratings who have been replaced in the New Zealand naval forces by reserves,, new entries and junior. Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve ratings. All had received special training to fit them for service with the Royal Navy. ; In addition, the following 10 yachtsmen had been selected for commissions as sub-lieutenants in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve for service overseas:—Sydney G. Wallace (Wellington), T. E. Mellor (Wellington), Ewan Cameron (Dunedin), Basil Shaw (Napier), Stanley G. Jervis (Auckland), William S. Wilson (Auckland). Arthur J. Martin (Auckland), Reginald A. Holloway (Auckland), Ralph R, Goodwin (Auckland), and Ronald V. Gunn (Hokitika).
