The Marquess of Willingdon and Lady Willingdon are due by the flying-boat Aotearoa tomorrow. They will be accompanied by the Australian Government representative at the Centennial celebrations, Senator Mcßride. Also on board will be the New Zealand Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) and Mrs Jones, and Mr F. Dwyer, of the Internal Affairs Department, who flew to Sydney on J .'.ie Aotearoa on Tuesday.—Press Association. , Messrs F. L. Casbolt, F.R.P.S., and F. E. McGregor, members of the Christchurch Photographic Society, have received advice that they have had prints accepted in the second international salon at Debrecen, Hungary. Mr Casbolt's work is represented also in the exhibition at Zagreb, Jugoslavia.
Mr B. H. Mason, M.Sc, who left New Zealand in November to take up a science scholarship in Norway, has arrived at Oslo, according to advice by cablegram. He will be with Professor V, M. Goldschmidt, of the Oslo Geological Museum.
Mr F. T. H. Bell, secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club, was a passenger for theinorth last night.
Bisjiop West-Watson went north by the steamer express last night.
After the sitting of the Magistrate's Court at Kaiapoi yesterday, Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., referred to the retirement of Constable J. Holmes, who has spent more than 30 years' service in Kaiapoi. Mr Levvey expressed keen appreciation of Constable Holmes's years of service. Mr E. J. Corcoran, for the Bar, associated himself with the remarks of Mr Levvey, and stated that during the last 18 he had appeared in the Court at Kaiapoi Constable Holmes had conducted his prosecutions with invariable fairness. His work in the district had been very highly appreciated, and he would be greatly missed in Kaiapoi.
Lieutenant-Colonel A. S. Falconer, D.5.0., M,C„ has left Invercargill for Burhham to take up the command of the 23rd Canterbury-Otago Battalion.
The Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, arrived by the steamer express from Wellington yesterday.
The Rev. H. B. Jones, The Vicarage, Prebbleton, has left on a holiday visit to Auckland., The Rt. Rev. Dr. E. Gleeson, Catholic Bishop of Maitland, New South Wales, has arrived in New Zealand for the National Eucharistic Congress, which will be held next month. He will be one of the special preachers at the Mass for the Religious.—Press Association.
