MINISTER'S VISIT TO WEST COAST

INSPECTION OF ROAD DAMAGE IN SOUTH WESTLAND GREYMOUTH, January 16. ; This afternoon, the Minister for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) arrived at Greymouth from Christchurch to begin an inspection of works on the West Coast. He was accompanied by the chief engineer of the Public Works Department (Mr J. Woods) and by his private secretary (Mr J. W. Nissen). At the request of the Minister, no deputations were arranged. With Mr J. O'Brien, M.P., the Minister and his party will leave to-mor-row morning for Weheka, South Westland, inspecting flood damage on the way. They, will stay at Weheka tomorrow evening; and on Thursday, an. inspection will be made of the new road to Paringa by way of Bruce Bay, before they return to Weheka, that evening. Oh Friday, visits will be made to Jackson's Bay, in the far south, Okuru, and Haast, and tlie party will return to ; Waiho that evening. Saturday will be spent at Waiho and the return jourj ney will be begun on Sunday.
