A COALITION
TO IH3B EOITOBi O* TUB PSESS. Sir,—A correspondent, "Common Sense," considers that a coalition Government is necessary to get the present Government out of its •difficulties. I cannot see that there would be any gain to the electors. Every co-opera-tion will be given, the Government in its war effort. Even if the Government finds it necessary to bring in conscription, its stand will be admired.and applauded by all loyal British subjects. The Government ne'fid ha.ve no worry that it .will,be used against-them except by a few disgruntled members of its own ranks. Their followers throughout New Zealand would be few. The Opposition serves- a more useful purpose as critics of legislation brought down. The only class a coalition would suit are the monopoly Capitalists that have developed ; as a result of the sort of legislation of recent years; Advantage has been taken of one catch-cry and anpther to the detriment of industrial expansion and the money value of wages. I notice that "Common Sense , is developing some new ones, such as long-range, systematic common-sense planning, re-establishment of etc.: etc. I suppose, Rafferty rules; chaos, public health, efficiency in business, and a few others Have been worked to a standstill.—Yours, etc., H. iJJjloa. Heathcote, January 4, 1940.
