FAREWELL TO SOLDIERS GATHERING AT CHEVIOT There was a large and representative gathering at a farewell social and dance held in the Cheviot Town Hall in honour, of the Cheviot members of the first echelon of the Special Force. Mr J. Baton, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, presided. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes addressed the soldiers and on behalf of the district presented each one with a pocket wallet. Those honoured were Lance-Corporal S. Shaw, Privates D. McClintock, A. E. Smith, W. Costello, H. Carson, F. Ward. Private A. E. Smith replied on behalf of the soldiers. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES HAWARDEN The monthly meeting of the Hawarden Women’s Institute was held with Mrs Maxwell presiding. A report on the group meeting was given by Mrs Maxwell. Mason reported on the group meeting held in Hawarden. A motion of sympathy with Mrs E C. White in her illness was passed. A bring and buy stall did good business. Mrs F. GREENDALE The monthly meeting of the Greendale Women’s Institute took the form of a garden party held in Mr J. W. Warren’s grounds. Mrs Evans, president, presided. Visitors were welcomed from the Styx and Belfast branches. Christmas parcels were exchanged, and visitors received a small gift.
