(CONTINUED FROM PAGE 15) WESTPORT T.C. ACCEPTANCES CPUS* 4ISSOOIA.TIOH tbliobam.) WESTPORT, December 15. Acceptances for the opening day of the Westport Trotting Club’s midsummer meeting, to be held on December 26 and 27, are:—

TROTTING NOTES Bracketed At the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting to-day the following horses will be bracketed on the totalisator:— John Hole Memorial Handicap— Walter Gay and Battlefield. Levels Handicap—Devotion and Battlevale. Waimate Handicap—Paddy’s Harvest and Mohican. Kerrytown Handicap—Petite and Silk King, Rollalong, and Trireme. Pareora Handicap—Walter Gay, Token and Battlefield. To Drive at Ashburton G. McKendry, who since August has been under treatment for injuries to his right arm, yesterday received his discharge from further attendance at hospital and his medical advisor has given him permission to take up driving again after the Timaru meeting. This will give McKendry his chance to appear under colours at the Ashr burton meeting on Boxing Day. His return to the sulky will be all for the go6d of trotting for there are few better reinsmen than McKendry in New Zealand. He has been offered the driving behind F. P. Brosnan’s horses at the Auckland meeting, but this is a trip that he is not likely tcf make. Battlefield and Bill B A number of horses engaged at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will be seen in action at Timaru to-day, the number including Token, Battlefield, Battlevale and Bill B. The lastnamed and Battlefield will contest the Auckland Cup, but as a win in the John Hole Memorial to-day wlil entail a penalty for the big race in Auckland, Battlefield wlil probably be reserved for the Pareora Handicap of a mile and a quarter to-day. A Timaru Prospect In the All Aged Stakes at Ashburton last season Ned Worthy, then three years old, showed himself a good class pacer when he finished fourth. Previous to this he had shown speed when he finished second to Loyal Rey at Methven after a smart effort. Ned Worthy,' owned by the Southland sportsman Mr H. Hunter, is trained in South Canterbury by R. W. Townley, jun., who has other useful horses , in Appomatox, Jenny's Guy, and Roan Duke to represent him. R. Townley, i sen., will also have a useful. team to carry his colours, the number includ- 1 ing Reta’s Own, Tiny Axworthy, Silver j Guy, and Gracie Fields. The South Canterbury-trained contingent should win a fair proportion of the stake ; money on offer. A Warm Favourite Nelson Eddy is a very warm favourite for the John Hole Memorial to be decided at the Timaru meeting to- 1 day. While Nelson Eddy’s races have been won over shorter journeys than ! two miles there is nothing to suggest that he is not quite capable of going the longest journey. On his day he is a great young pacer. Dual Engagements C. S. Donald will have a small but select field engaged at Timaru to-day, the number including Labour Day and Jackaranda, each of whom claims dual engagements. A Timaru Team P. Gallagher, who trains at Washdyke, is getting a useful team together, ; and he is likely to do a good deal of travelling during the Christmas and ] New Year holidays. At Timaru to- i day he will have in the opening event J the four-year-old Millisle, by Peter Moko—Plain Dolly, a trotter that is ■ expected to reach much better class ! than he is now racing in. Others that j will carry his colours include Rowi and Smile Again, two speedy pacers. Lucky Jack After the second race at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting to-day Lucky . Jack will make an attempt to break s the New Zealand grass track record of 2min 0 2-ssec, at present held by i Van Derby. 2 Useful Pacers < Palomar, Zincali, and Fluke will be 1 driven by L. A. Maidens at Timaru today. R. B. Berry will have a useful ; pair in Axspear and Huguenot, Greymouth Trotting Club j The Greymoyth Trotting Qlub’s pro- * gramme, nominations for which will - close on Tuesday, is one that should appeal to the owners and trainers. There are two maiden pacers’ races, three races for horses assessed on2min ■ 24sec mark, and four races for the 2min 21sec class. The principle event each ■ day carries a stake of £230, with a trophy added for the cup handicap, to

be run over two miles. The limit lox these classes is 3min Slsec and 4min 45sec. The unhoppled brigade is provided for with two races for 3min 46sec class horses over one mile and a quarter and and a half, and two races for the 3min 43sec class.
