SHOW GROUND FOR KAIKOURA
CONTROL IN FUTURE DISCUSSED
SUGGESTED PERMANENT j BUILDING
The future control of the new show ground at Kaikoura, it was suggested to the Hon. R. Semple (Minister for Public Works) yesterday, should be vested in the Kaikoura Agricultural and Pastoral Association, the ground to be used for sports on other than show days. Under the Kaikoura railway station plan part of the existing show ground will be used for railway purposes and another show site has been offered by the Government to the County Council, which is also the Domain Board. The provision qf another ground, approximately a quarter of a mile nearer Kaikoura, has been suggested by the County Council. The location of the new show ground and also the control were discussed by the Minister ■at Oaro yesterday with Messrs J. Trewin, L. P. Blunt, and R.
Laidlaw, who also suggested that some assistance could be given by the Government in providing a permanent building, in which homecraft and school sections of the show could be exhibited. They pointed out that the Drill Hall, used in the past for these exhibits, would be too far away from the show ground in the future. The Minister said that one of the larger buildings now used oh the railway construction works could possibly be made available for show purposes, as their value for demolition and removal would be comparatively small. He promised also to investigate the legality of vesting the control of the new show grounds in the Agricultural and Pastoral Association.
