PIGEON FLYING
EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB
The East Christchurch Racing Pigeon Club held a scratch race from Kaikoura last Saturday, 61 birds, belonging to 10 owners, competing. The birds were liberated in favourable weather, and a northeasterly wind enabled the birds l to put up fairly fast times, only seconds dividing the prize-winners. The winner was W. Walls’s bird No. 99, which flew the distance of 102 miles 1672 yards in 2hr 12min Slsec. The following were the results ;
W. Walls’s No. 99. 1363.88 yards a min-ute;-A. Wright’s No. 68, 1363.86; J. Stewart’s No. 552, 1358; T. Nicholson’s No. 699, 1351; W. Pollard’s No. 55, 1347; J. Beale’s No. 5, 1345; J. Burke’s No. 832, 1338; G. Robertson’s No. 212, 1330; A. Macbrayne’s No. 414, 1316; W. Goslin’s unrung, 1216.
CANTERBURY CLUB’S
RACE
The Canterbury Flying Club held an oldbird race from Clinton on Saturday, 49 birds, belonging to 17 owners, competing. The winning bird, owned by Mr B. Bell,
flew the distance of 244 miles 1056 yards in 7hr 16min 42sec. The following were the results:—
Bell’s No. 195, 986 yards a minute; Bayl liss’s No. 301, 985; Maxwell’s No. 99, 984; Pither's No. 64, 984; Tumber's No. 861. 985; Stone’s No 260, 983; Grime’s No. 420, 983; Robinson’s No. 816, 978; Pegley’s No. 684, 959; McNish’s No. 223, 909; French’s No. 183, 902; Bailey’s No. 324. 902; Anderson’s No. 415, 900; Duffield’s No. 418, 890. The nominated bird prizes were won by B. Bell and J. Maxwell.
