SHIPPING NOTES The Totara was expected at Lyttelton last night from Wellington, and is to discharge and load to-day, sailing this afternoon for Wellington. The Gale is due here this morning from the south, and is to load for Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. The Port Whangarei Is due here tomorrow* from Timaru, and is to load on Monday for Wellington, New Plymouth, and Waikato. „ The Poolta is now due here on Thursday from Oamaru, and is to discharge coal from Westport. The Holmdale is due here on Wednesday from Timaru to load for Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. NEW HUDDART, PARKER STEAMER The ‘interstate cargo steamer Barwon has been launched and is completing at the Dundee yards of the Caledon Shipbuilding Company, Ltd., for her owners, Messrs Huddart, Parker, Ltd. The Barwon is the eighth vessel built by the Caledon Company for the Australian coastal trade since 1936, but is the first for the Huddart. Parker Line. She has a length b.p. of 360 ft, beam 50ft, and depth moulded to upper deck of 27ft Sin, and is of the shelter-deck type. The cargo holds have been designed to give clear space for the carriage of bulk cargoes. There are three cargo holds forward of the machinery space and one aft. each hold being served from large hatches. Each hatch is served with four derricks so as to provide rapid loading and discharging. Sixteen cargo winches of specially ; heavy, type have been fitted. A derrick capable of lifts up to 25 tons is fitted at No. .2 hatch. # Shipping telegrams • WELLINGTON, September 1.
