OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. September 1. The weather forecast lor Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows; — Moderate to fresh winds between south-west and north-west. Weather fair to fine and cool. Seas ■ slight to moderate. WEST COAST. The forecast for the West Coast is:— Moderate to fresh south-westerly winds, gradually turning northwesterly. Weather cool and changeable, with occasional showers. Seas rather rough. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is;— Weather mainly fair, but with occasional passing showers possible in most districts, but especially in the far north and south. ' Temperatures moderate in .the north, but cool in the south, with frosts probable 10-night. An anti-cyclone extends from eastern 'Australia on to the northern Tasman Sea. but pressure remains relatively low in the south. Winds —Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds predominating at first, but gradually tending to north-wester-ly about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rather rough to rough on parts of the West Coast and in Fovoaux Strait. Elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising later in Cook Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong south-westerly winds prevailing at first, but gradually tending northwesterly in the southern portion. Seas rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine with bright, .warm sunshine. There was a light westerly breeze., At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a light south-west wind. The temperature was 43 degrees and the barometer at 29.71 inche was steady. Barometric pressure rose steadily and at 5 p.m. the reading was 29.50 Inches. i • • . ■ Wellington—The morning ’was fine and sunny, but during the afternoon the wind changed to the north-west. and heavy clouds gathered .from the southwest, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. There was a severe thunderstorm accompanied by rain and. hall. , The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 45.1 degree's, and the maximum yesterday 56.8 degrees. The barometer reading at 6 p.m. was 1001.3 millibars. Dunedin—The sun shone brightly during the greater _part of the day in Dunedin. There was a fresh breeze from the south-west.
