RECEPTION for refugees PLANNED Miss E. Batt presided at a meeting of the World Fellowship Group of the Young Women’s Christian Association, held in the association’s club rooms. The speaker was Mrs L. G. Pocock, who spoke of the present international crisis, and traced the development and political policies of the peoples and countries intimately concerned. Mrs B. H. Gilmour, representing the board of directors of the association, gave a report of a national board meeting of the association, which she had attended recently in Wellington. The Young Women’s Christian Association was deeply concerned with helping refugees from central Europe who had been the unfortunate victims of present-day dictatorship policies, said Mrs Gilmour, It was decided that a reception for refugees should be held by the Christchurch World Fellowship Group. YOUNG FARMERS’ BALL SCARGILL-OMIHI MEMBERS ENTERTAIN After a football match between the Cheviot and Scargill-Omihi Young Farmers’ Clubs, the visitors were entertained by members of the Scargill-Omihi Young Farmers’ Club at their annual ball. The guests were welcomed by Mr N. Maxwell. Music was supplied by George Holland s orchestra (Christchurch) and extras by Mrs A. Ferguson and Mr B. Nlcholls. Novelty dances were won by Mrs L. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by the Villa patients, who were congratulated by Mr McKay, president of the Linwood Burgesses’ Association, and Mr Miles, president of the’ Addington Burgesses’ Association.
