NEW BRIGHTON LOAN
I »ll THE EDITOR Of THE PEESiSir, —In a recent issue of your paper you published a resume of a proposed loan of £SOOO by the NeW Brighton Borough Council. ;I understand this loan is to be raised by an application to the Government Loans Board, and that the Mayor of New Brighton is anxious that it should be pushed through by ihe.council without a poll by the ratepayers.
Can you inform the ratepayers of New Brighton what steps they are entitled to take and how to take them to register their protest against such a loan, if they so desire? Beyond the Mayor’s statement that his council intends going on with the loan proposals without consulting the ratepayers, and his published list of proposed works, there has been no information supplied through any of your columns as to, how and to whom objections, or a request for a poll, should be sent. ilt is about time that a democratic spirit was inculcated in our local council and to see that those who have to[ pay the piper are not pushed so ruthlessly aside. —-Yours, etc. B. FAIR. August 28, 1939.
