GOVERNMENT CAMPS FOR CENTENNIAL
TO THE EDITOR or THE PRESS Sir, —I have just returned from a month’s tour of this interesting island. This time it was the Nelson Province and the West Coast. Among other things, I have discovered there exists a defeatist attitude about visiting the Centennial Exhibition. Rumour has it that every hotel as far back as Palmerston North is booked up already; consequently it is quite useless to go. This is going to be bad for the exhibition business. We have heard how many millions they are expecting to lose in New York through underattendance. >
I suggest that the Government should provide an accommodation camp on a large scales I have sampled the Government camp at Cascade Creek in the Eglinton Valley. This at 10s a day is a useful alternative to the only other available at 255, and will encourage hundreds to visit and revisit this beautiful spot Is there any reason why the Public Works Department should not be able to cater for thousands, make a profit and bring grist to the exhibition mill?— Yours, etc., _ _
