PROPOSED VISIT OF AUSTRALIANS
SUGGESTED ITINERARIES Details of the' proposed visit of an Australian eight-oared crew for the New Zealand centennial regattas were received last night by the management committee of the Canterbury Rowing Association from the New Zealand Council. . The council advised that it had sub-, mitted three itineraries for the Australians' tour. It was proposed that the visiting crew should arrive at Auckland on January 22. The first itinerary provided for visits of the crew'to Hamilton, Auckland, Wanganui, and Wellington after which the crew would leave' Wellington for Sydney on February 19. The second itinerary was the same as the first with the addition of a visit to Christchurch on February 24. and under this the crew would leave Wellington on February 27. The third was the same as the second, except that the Hamilton visit was deleted. A suggestion “was also made by the council that it was hoped that the Australians would compete in the New Zealand championships. provided 1 that the award for first place goes to the first New Zealand crew to finish. It was also hoped that the visitors would enter In the four-oared, pair-bared, and double-sculling races. The expenses of the Australians’ visit would be found by the New Zealand Association.
The committee decided to approve- of 1 the championship races and to suggest that a special donation, equal to the first prize, be awarded to the Australians 1* they finished first. . The council also advised that the Wei" i llngton Centre had made a suggestion that an American university crew be invited to visit New Zealand, the itinerary to coinolde as far as possible with that erf the Australian crew. However, it would not be possible-to pay .the expenses of the American visitors In view °* those of the Australians, but If the latter did not come, the money could go to the expenses of the American crew. It was agreed to approve of the principle of the proposed visit of the American f r ,The committee decided to , the Union Rowing Club on the celebration of its seventy-fifth anniversary. - , The chairman, Mr B.
