ARBOR DAY CELEBRATED The monthly meeting of the West Spreydon School Committee was held recently. The chairman (Mr Birss) presided. , . . Several householders were sent letters of thanks for the help given to the school during the month. The Christchurch City Council will be asked to send a demonstrator to the school to give the pupils a lesson on rose pruning. Dental charge arrears were discussed,, and the committee decided to suspen'd this sei. xe to those in arrears. The weekly euchre parties for school funds were. reported to be well patronised with pleasing financial results. , , . , ~ Arbor Day was celebrated recently, parents and pupils attending the tree planting in the thoroughfare between Winsor crescent and Lyttelton street. Cr J E Jones and Mr M. J. Barnett, superintendent of parks and reserves, sooke to the children on tie meaning of Arbor Day. ■ Thirty-six flowering cherry trees were planted, every teacher and class plating trees. Mr Hennessy and Mr Seymour planted trees on behalf of the school Committee.
