Miss Kathleen McNab (Akaroa) is spending a holiday in Christchurch.

Miss Mary Henning, Timaru, is spending a shprt holiday with, her parents, Mr and Mrs B. W. Henning, “Crookston,” Akaroa. Mrs G. McKenzie (Waimate), who is visiting her parents. Mr and Mrs J. R. White, Little River, spent the week-end with .Miss Betty Whelch, Akaroa.

Mrs G. H. R. Ulrich (Timaru) left yesterday for Waiau, to visit Mrs D. C. Macfarlane, .Mount Paul.

Miss Hodgkinson, a retired English teacher, who has been touring Australia and New Zealand, left last night for Auckland to return to England on the Rangitata. Miss Hodgkipson is accompanied 'by two nephews. She has been in Christchurch for eight wjeks. Miss Marion Harris, third daughter qf Mr and Mrs' Stanley Harris, Murray-Aynsley Hillj 'will leave New Zealand by the Rangitane on September 23 to visit her aunt, Mrs Gordon-Alexander, Gloucestershire,

Mr. and Mrs A. B. Natusch will leave by the Rangitata for a short trip, to England. Mr Natusch is manager for J. B. Westray and Company (New Zealand), Ltd. In his absence Mr David Crosbie will act as manager!

Lady Acland (“Chippenham,” Brown’s road) will leave to-morrow for a visit to Mount Peel.

Mrs Howard Tripp (Timaru), who has been visiting England) is returning by the Rimutaka,; due. in Auckland oh September 21.

Miss Erica Bridges and Miss Edith Holmes (Wellington) are the guests of Miss M. Cotterill, Cashel street west. Miss Betty Cotterill, is at. pre-! sent staying with .Miss Olive.Mcilraith, Merivale lane.

SHIRLEY TEMPLE COMPETITION.

The Closing Date of the Shirley Temple Art Linen Competition being run at the STATE THEATRE has been extended to AUGUST 31st.

Mr and Mrs A. C. Keell (St. Asaph street), who arq visiting Auckland, will return home this week. Miss Joan Maling (Cashmere), who has been visiting England, left London on her return journey by the Rimutaka, due in Auckland on September 21. Miss Beryl Masters (Stratford) is staying with Mrs J. E. Anderson, Watford street, Papanui, for three weeks.

Miss Mabel Opie (Winchester), one .of the party of New Zealand Women’s Institutes’ members who have been travelling through the United Kingdom, has been staying in Ireland. At Killarney she did the lake tour in the jaunting car and visited Kate Kearney’s cottage. She rode on horseback to Windy Gap with a New Zealand friend. On returning to England she visited several motor-car factories at Birmingham.

At a preliminary meeting of women, convened by the North' Canterbury provincial executive of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, plans were discussed- and some arrangements made for the country women’s exhibit at the Centennial Exhibition to open in Wellington in November. Those present, were Mesdames Leonard Coop, ,H. A. Nutt, G. S. Roberts, and J., Dryden Hall (North Canterbury executive), Mrs M. Bethell (Hurunui),. Mrs Geprge Moore and Mrs Mangin (Mid-Canterbury), Mrs William Deans and Mrs Constable, representing the Women’s Institutes. •
