OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, July 20. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5. p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Light but freshening north-west to south-west winds. Weather "me, but with showers later. Cool temperatures. Seas slight. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South island is;— Moderate to fresh south-wester-ly winds predominating, weather cold and changeable, with passing showers. Seas moderate to rather rough. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is as follows; Fair to fine generally at first, becoming unsettled, however, in the western and southern portions of the South Island, with occasional showers, later extending to most other districts, more especially those with a westerly aspect. Cool temperatures. The anti-cyclone is beginning to move off the Dominion and a series of shallow depressions of the westerly type is advancing over the South Tasman Sea. Winds—Variable in direction, with south-westerly predominating in the North Island and between north-west and south-west in the South Island. Force light at first, but freshening about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Slight to moderate, but rising somewhat south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate south-west winds and moderate seas in the northern portion, freshening north-west to south-west winds in the southern portion, with rising seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Yesterday was fine and sunny in Christchurch. A cold south-westerly wind blew during the day, and the maximum temperature was 42.5 degrees. The evening was fine and frosty. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear, and there was a gentle easterly wind. The tempe'rature was 33 degrees, and the barometer steadv at 29.94 in. •To July 21. v IN. OTHER PLACES Auckland—Yesterday was tine and sunny, with a light southerly wind, the maximum temperature being 50 degrees. The barometer was steady with the 5 p.m. reading 29.71 inches (1006 millibars). Wellington—The day was fine, except for a few scattered light showers in the eastern suburbs in the morning. A light southerly breeze still blew. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 40.2 degrees, and She maximum yesterday 45.2 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer read 1009.9 millibars (29.823 inches). £ Dunedin—After a hard frost in the morning the weather in Dunedin yesterday was bright and fine. There was no wind and the maximum temperature was 44 degrees. The barometer was steady about 29.85 inches. 7 OFFICIAL REPORTS
