WOMEN’S TEMPERANCE UNION
RICCARTON BRANCH Mrs C. W. Barrel! presided at the monthly meeting erf the Riccarton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and devotions were led by Mrs Miller. A letter of sympathy was sent to Mrs White, who is at present in hospital. Invitations to attend Sydenham, Linwood, Opawa, and North Beach "Y” Union meetings were accepted. Reports of mental hospital visiting and' the Band of Hope were given. Mothers were asked for their support in allowing children to enter for the temperance examinations. Mrs Daly was appointed “Cradle Roll’’ superintendent, and Mrs Gainsford was appointed treasurer of special funds. Mrs Mackay outlined the work done by the Crippled Children Society and stated that there were 17 branches in New Zealand, and 2000 crippled children, Mesdames-Meharry and Heyward were hostesses at the tea hour.
