ANNUAL SMOKE CONCERT

♦ CHRISTCHURCH WORKING MEN’S CLUB' The many 'and varied-activities of the Christchurch, Working Men’s Club were referred to last evening by Mr J. P. Oakes at the annual smoke concert of the club. Mr Oakes, proposing the toast of “The Club arid its Founders,” : traced the work of the president and former presidents in encouraging the expan* sion of the varied activities of the club. A number of other clubs. and or- . ganisations were represented at the gathering, which was held to celebrate the fifty-ninth anniversary of the club’s formation. There was a ■ large gathering of members- and visitors; .. The toast list was as follows:—"The King” (proposed by the president, Mr A. Peverill): “The Club and? Its Founders” (Mr J. P.
