HORRORS AND COMEDY
Strong medicine, especially recommended for vicarious adventurers who have had no experience more dangerous than walking across the Square at midday on Saturday, is “Savage Gold,” the hair-raising jungle film coming to the Plaza next week. This is the authentic record of Commander George M. Dyott’s encounters with savage head-hunters in Ecuador. “Savage Gold” starts with a foreword vouching for its authenticity, explaining that Dyott had not originally intended it for motion picture theatre presentation. Then the leader'and his two companions arrive in the jungles after a long and tortuous journey. They , are welcomed by the Jivaro chief, .but the witch-doctor, an evil villain, thwarts their efforts to find their friend Schweitzer, the German gold prospector who is mysteriously lost.
The photography in this picture is unusually good. John Martin speaks the dialogue with a proper appreciation of its dramatic value. Those who like jungle films—and above all, horror films—will be’fascinated by “Savage Gold.” , Also at the Plaza next week, Charlie Ruggles will head the cast of “His Exciting Night,” with a supporting cast including Maxie Rosenbloom, heavy-weight challenger of Joe Louis; Marion Martin. Broadway beauty; Ona Munson, fresh from New York musical comedies; Stepin Fetchit, Benny Baker, Georgia Caine, Richard Lane, Frances Robinson. Raymond Parker. Regis Toomey, and Stanley Hughes. Ruggles will be seen as an innocent and unsuspecting bridegroom who is lured to the home of Miss Martin, a
