FIRE IN LONDON MARKET
RAILWAY STATIONS PARALYSED FLAMES DESTROY POWER CABLES (IHDEPEITDEKT CABLE SERVICE.) LONDON, July 20. Two of London’s biggest railway stations. Charing Cross and London Bridge, were paralysed last evening when flames from a fire which destroyed half of Borough Market spread to the Southern Railway’s electric cables near London Bridge. , . Cracks were later discovered in the brickwork of the bridge. One thousand passengers were stranded between 11 p.m. and 12.35 a.m., when the current was restored. The flames at one stage threatened Southwark Cathedral. Three hundred firemen fought the outbreak.
