CLAIM BY STOCK BREEDER
♦ POSSIBILITY OF MOTION FOR NEW TRIAL Finality has not yet been reached in the action in which Alan Grant, of Waimate, stock breeder, claimed £IB2O 2s from Cooper, MacDougall, and Robertson, Ltd., of Manchester, manufacturers of sheep-dips. The trial of the action, the basis of which was Grant’s allegation that 37 of his stud and stock rams had been killed by absorptive poisoning from a dip made by the defendant. and 156 others had depreciated in value, was concluded in the Supreme Court last week, the jury finding for the plaintiff and awarding him the full amount of his claim. Yesterday, Mr Justice Northcroft* extended by 14 days the time in which the defendant may move for a new trial, counsel for the plaintiff consenting to this order. A notice of motion for judgment in accordance with the jury’s verdict has been filed for the plaintiff. The plaintiff is represented by Messrs W. J. Sim and T. A. Gresson, and the defendants by Messrs A. T. Donnelly and A. M. Gould (of Auckland).
