COURT-MARTIAL IN SPAIN

REPUBLICAN GENERAL CONDEMNED

FORMER COMMANDER OF BARCELONA FORGES

(Received April 16, 11.30 p.m.)

LONDON, April 15

The Barcelona correspondent of the British United Press says that a court-martial sentenced to death General Jose Roldan, commander of the Barcelona forces when the Nationalist movement started, because he ordered the civil guards to fight the Nationalist Army. He also gave evidence against General Burrial, whom the Republicans executed.

General Roldan’s brother refused to defend him and a lieutenant took over the task.

General Roldan was on crutches.
