PROMPT WORK PREVENTS

SPREAD OF ULAZE

Prompt work by the City Five Brigade confined the damage caused by a fire that broke out shortly after 5.30 p.m. yesterday in the roof above the private bar of the Caledonian Hotel to the burnt walls and floor of one room. A strong north-westerly wind was blowing at the time, and it is considered that had the fire not been dealt with promptly it would have spread very rapidly’. The Caledonian Hotel, a two-storeyed building of 18 rooms, constructed in. wood and brick, is situated on the corner of Caledonian and Holly roads. The proprietor is Mr Dennis Coftey.. The building is insured with the Liverpool, London, and Globe Insurance Company, and the furniture with the Queensland Insurance Company. Ltd It is not considered, however, that the damage will amount to more tlwn i a small figure.
