PASSENGERS’ DASH TO CATCH AWATEA

RECORD PASSENGER LIST

SYDNEY, January 14,

Three passengers for New Zealand caught the Awatea as she passed under the Sydney Harbour bridge last night on her way to sea. They had flown from Melbourne to Mascot, and were rushed through the city by taxi. They boarded a launch, intercepted the Awatea, and were taken aboard less than three hours after leaving Melbourne. The three passengers were Captain R. E. Murray, Miss Mary Corbett, of Thames, and Miss Jones, of Auckland.

The Awatea broke all previous passenger carrying records with 665 passengers, of whom 247 are boy scouts returning home. The Awatea’s complement, including the crew, totals 917 persons.
