AIR INSPECTION OF PROPERTY
$ FLIGHT TO KAIKOURA DISTRICT MARLBOROUGH ADJUSTMENT COMMISSION [THE PRESS Special Service, i BLENHEIM, December 23. For the second time in its comparatively short existence the Marlborough No. 2 Adjustment Commission, comprising Messrs G. M. Spence (chairman), £. Reid, and A. R, Graham,
travelled by air to save time and expense in carrying out its work. The commission wished to' inspect the property at the back of the Kaikoura district and to undertake this by ordinary means of travel would have occupied from three to four days. By air, however, the inspection was completed in just under two hours, and the expense was almost halved. The party left Blenheim in the Marlborough Aero Club’s Waco at 6.30 yesterday morning, and was back at the aerodrome before 8.30. On the outward journey the party passed over the Avon saddle, up the Awatere valley, crossed over Molesworth and Tarndale, and down the Acheron river until the Clarence river was met, and then went to the property that was to be inspected. This done the aeroplane was headed for Blenheim, passing over the bluff country across the Awatere valley and the Dashwood pass. Mr Spence said that by the use of air travel the commission was able to
obtain a much better idea of the general character of the steep country at the back of Kaikoura than it could have done by other means. The saving of time and expense had been invaluable and had permitted the commission to complete its work before the Christmas holidays.
