PRISONERS SENTENCED
SUPREME COURT AT WANGANUI (TRESS ABSOCJWIOK TELEGRAM.) WANGANUI, November 4. Mr Justice Quilliam sentenced prisoners in the Supreme Court today as follows: Thomas Robert McCallum, attempted theft, admitted to probation for two years, the accused to take out a prohibition order; Alan Duward Carlton, i misappropriation of money, admitted to probation for two years and ordered to make restitution; Frederick Charles Hamlin, breaking, entering, and .theft, two years' detention in a Borstal institution; Cecil Harold Lewis, negligently driving a motor-car and ] causing bodily harm, fined £3O and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution. Charles Neil Neilson, for attempting to do bodily harm by an explosive substance, was formally sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour. His Honour said that he had thought of making arrangements to have the prisoner, aged 62, sent to a Salvation Army home; but in view of the letter he had written to his wife he could not allow him his liberty. His Honour added that he would make representations to the proper authorities to have the prisoner's «ase dealt with.
A sentence of five years' imprisonment with hard labour was passed on Nataki Rukena, for negligently driving a car and driving while in a state of intoxication and causing death.
