TABLET UNVEILED

MEMORIAL TO MRS JOHN MACKENZIE A tablet in memory of the late Mrs John Mackenzie, wife of Dr. John Mackenzie, was unveiled before a large congregation in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church yesterday afternoon. The tablet, which was erected by members of the Bible classes, was unveiled by Miss Ramsay, a sister of Mrs' Mackenzie. The Rev. G. H. Jupp gave an address dealing with the life and work of Mrs Mackenzie. A message from Dr. Mackenzie was read by the Rev. J. A. Asher. . Mrs Mackenzie lived in Christchurch from about 1901 to 1914, when Dr, Mackenzie, then the Rev. John Mackenzie, was at St. Andrew’s Church. She was a great leader of the Bible class in the church, and a well-known leader of and worker for youth generally. She was a pioneer of the Young Women’s Bible Class movement. Among others present were the Rev. Dr. J. D. Salmond, youth director for the Presbyterian Church, and Mrs T. E. Riddle, on furlough from India, who was the first .Bible class nurse to be sent to India from this country. Mrs Mackenzie was the founder of the fund to provide for this work.

DANCE AT DARFIELD ST. ANDREW’S OLD BOYS The sixth annual dance, tfeld in the Darflcld Hall, by members of St. Andrew’s Old Boys’ Association who live in the Malvern district, attracted many guests. Excellent arrangements had been made by a capable committee and music was supplied by Kitchen sorchestra and the St. Andrew’s College Pipe Band. ' , , , x The guests of honour included Mr J. B. Mawson. headmaster of St. Andrew s College, and Mrs Mawson. Mr J. A. Henry, president of St. Andrew s College Old Boys’ Association, and Miss Heruy. Mr G. A. M. PARTY AT SUMNER Mrs H. Y. Widdowson and Mrs R. Thompson gave a very enjoyable party at Mrs Thompson’s home, Richmond Hill, in honour of Miss Betty Boulton, who is to be married on Saturday. The gathering took the form of a pantry party and the guests brought many appropriate gift?. The drawing-room was decorated with pink tulips and tea was served in the dining-room. An amusing competition was won by Miss Patricia Simpson. Those present were Mesdames A. V. Kerr, R. Laurenson, H. O. Hewlett, D. Jeffreys, R. Thompson, H. Y. Widdowson, Misses Betty Boulton, Mavis Boulton, Olive Crooke, N. Thomson, Joan Dean, Patricia Simpson, and E. Pender.
