Return of Former Colonies IHXITED PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT.) (Received October 16, 9.50 p.m.) LONDON, October 15. The “Sunday Dispatch” asserts that the basis of a plan which Herr Hitler will shortly propose to Britain and France for a general settlement includes:— A German guarantee of French frontiers, A declaration that the present British Empire conforms to German interests. * Air defence limitation pacts between Britain and Germany and France and Germany. No pacts whatever with Russia. Complete liberty for German action in Eastern Europe. The return to Garmany (in spite of the declaration about the British Empire) of her former colonies at present mandated to Britain and France.
RETURN OF AFRICAN COLONIES
“CAN BE ADJUSTED BY NEGOTIATION” MENTIONED BETWEEN HITLER AND MR CHAMBERLAIN ? BERLIN, October 14. “Experience has shown that these things can be adjusted by negotiation,” said a German Foreign Office sp jkesman, commenting on the hostility of the South African Minister for Defence (Mr O. Pirow) to the return of South-West Africa and Tanganyika. He added: “We have heard so much lately about defence by force of arms that we do not take such speeches tragically.” It is stated in London that Germany has not made official approaches regarding the return of colonies. It is considered that German expectations might be based on private remarks in the course of the talks between Herr Hitler and Mr Chamberlain. PLANS TO OPPOSE GERMANY FORMATION OF LEAGUE IN AFRICA (Received October 16, 10.5 p.m.) WINDHOEK, October 15. A South-West Africa League, cooperating with Tanganyika,' is being formed to oppose the return to Germany of her former African colonies. PLEDGE TO REGAIN COLONIES REMOVAL OF “NATIONAL HUMILIATION” (Received October 16, 8.30 p.m.) BERLIN, October 15. A big audience, including uniformed army officers and veterans of German colonial wars, assembled at Berlin University to celebrate Ritter Franz von Epp’s seventieth birthday, rose to their feet while the following pledge composed by von Epp, who is head of the Reich Colonial League, was read out:—
“We promise the Fuhrer to use the same energy as our historical forerunners to regain the colonial possessions* they acquired, so that Germany's national humiliation may be removed.” The German colonial song was then sung.
