A CALLOUS MOTORIST

TO THE EDITOR Of TH« PBES». Sir—A short time ago one of your correspondents stated that the real road hog was the person who drove at 25 miles an hour, thus causing faster cars to pull out to pass him. Now I can give your correspondent an example of what the speed hog can be guilty of. On Thursday last a well-known North Canterbury drover was taking his cattle through Belfast when a fast car approached and the. drover sent along his dog (a very valuable one which has served his owner faithfully and well for eight years) to clear a track for the motorist, who, dashed past, ran over the dog, and went for his life amidst a cloud of dust. A lady who saw the Incident was so disgusted with his action that she wanted to get her car out and endeavour to find him to get his number. As was to be expected, the dog was badly injured and had to be left behind with a fractured shoulder in charge of a good Samaritan. Now the great majority of motorists - are very courteous and considerate on the road, especially \ynen passing stock, and it is a great- pity that their reptuation should be somewhat soiled by the action of a speed hog of the hit and run type.—Yours, etc., PART OWNER OF CATTLE.
