MALVERN POWER BOARD

SUPPLY IN WINDWHISTLE AREA

INFORMATION SOUGHT BY RESIDENTS

Correspondence was received at the last meeting of the Malvern Electric Power Board, from residents in the Windwhistle area, asking for terms of supply from the board. Mr John Deans presided. Other members present were Messrs H. C. Amyes, G. Begg, G. H. Judd, and H. Oliver. It was decided, in view of the isolated nature of the area, which was beyond the inner area of the power district, to suggest to, the residents that they apply to the Public Works Department for a supply from the department’s Windwhistle sub-station.

The engineer and secretary, in Ins monthly report, stated that during the previous five weeks only one pole had failed in the gales which were experienced. Line reconstruction work completed had removed 19 defective gum poles from service. The gang was engaged on the second complete overhaul of the Aylesbury line, and it would be moved to the Halkett line as soon as this job was completed. It was agreed to grant no further line extensions until the line gang had completed the pole replacement work, which had been held up by bad weather and pole stocks.

Three of the pine plantations which had menaced the Greendale feeder at Hororata had been removed by the respective owners during the month under the supervision of the board. Extensions to the board’s system had been made at Hororata, Annat, Springfield, and Courtenay. The revenue for the last quarter had totalled £2483, compared with £2430 for the corresponding period of last year.
