MR MACFARLANE AND THE BUSINESSMEN’S GROUP
TO THE EDITOR Or THE PRESS. Sir, —I notice the Businessmen’s Group is attacking Mr R. M. Macfarlane’s candidature, but this Is to be expected when they are affiliated to the National Party as anti-Labour propagandists during the present election campaign. It would be interesting to see the membership published, when it would be quite obvious to everypnc what a very small number of businessmen they really represent in our city. The much-used words, “The customer is always right,” are not practised by these commercial men. The Businessmen’s Group must remember that the majority of their customers are Labour supporters, as Christchurch is the most loyal community in New Zealand for the Labour Party. Would these mercantile gentlemen have the effrontery to stay that thousands of their customers are wrong? The antagonism of those who constitute the Businessmen’s Group towards the Labour Government must seem strange to readers. The Government by increasing the purchasing power, has brought greater business and a more equitable return for their investments. May the “political duster" get to work to brush away partial affections and all “bogies” from these businessmen, and then they will fully appreciate the Labour Government’s bringing a return of prosperity to our city.—Yours, etc., REG. STILLWELL. [Subject to the right of reply of C. Roy Harris this correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.”!
