ANNUAL REUNION MANY PRESENT AT OAMARU GATHERING The annual reunion of the Oamaru branch of the South African Veterans' Association held in the Little Theatre on Saturday night was attended by a j large number of members and visitors, j The president of the association (Mr c H. Woodward. ] ANGLING CLUB'S COMPETITION FLY-CASTING CHAMPIONSHIPS A casting competition held by the North Otago Angling Club, at the Oamaru Motor Camp on Saturday afternoon, was enjoyed by a large number of club members and visitors. The winner of the fly-casting accuracy challenge cup was W. Thojjas. The fly-casting accuracy competition was won by A. Dun and the fly-casting distance competition by A. Forrest, with a distance of 174 ft 2in. In this event S. H. Pile cast 183 ft. but as previous winners carry a 10 per cent, handicap, Forrest was declared the winner. At the conclusion of the competition afternoon tea was served. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES ANNUAL REUNION OF OLD BOYS- CLUB Club trophies won during the season were presented at the annual reunion of the Old Boys Football Club on Saturday night, when Mr J. Hendy was in the chair. These resulted as follows:—M. K. McCulloch Memorial Cup for the best club member on and off the field. R. McLaren; Hendy Cup for the best all round player. L. Ludemann; junior cup for the best junior player, J. Townsend. The following was the toast list:— "The King"; "Old Boys Football Club" (Mr R. Elder—Mr J. Hendy); "Sister Clubs" (Mr B. B. Blackmore—Messrs G. Bruce. L. Wootton. Sharp, and W. Uttley); "North Otago Rugby Union" (Mr C. Zimmermann —Mr F. Whiting); "Referees' Association" (Mr L. Webb— Mr J. Stewart); "Past Players" (Mr F. Jones—Messrs T. A. Hendra and R Cameron); "St. John Ambulance" (Mr Frater—Mr Sceats); "The Performers" (Mr R. Farrant—Mr J. McMillan), and "The Chairman." The Wise Shield, won by the club's third grade team was presented to the captain (D. Robson), at a dinner m given to the members of the team. The B presentation was made by Mr A. McI Phail.
The cup for the best player in the team was won by W. Perry.
GOLF CUTHBERTSON WINS BOGEY MATCH An excellent round of 75 won S. R. Cuthbertson the Oamaru Golf Club's bogey match on Saturday. Cuthbertson's handicap of four left him one up. M. Ewart was second with two down. The following are the results of the championship matches played:— Seniqrs: Mcßeath beat Christie, 3 and 1; Crimp beat Paape, 3 and 1; Domigan beat Mills, 1 up; McEwan beat Scott, 3 and 1. Intermediate: Tonkin beat Spear at the twenty-first; Watson beat Cook, 6 and 4; Fraser beat Armstrong, 6 and 4. Juniors: Murison won by default from Halligan; Murison beat McQuade, 4 and 3. Holmes Cup—Orbell beat Edmondson, 6 and 3; Rickman beat Crisp, 1 up. PRESENTATIONS TO MISS HELEN MCKENZIE Presentations to Miss Helen McKenzie, who will shortly leave Oamaru, were made at an afternoon tea party in Mr R. D. H. Swindley's office on Friday. Miss McKenzie has been a member of the office staff for nine years. In making the presentation of a fountain pen and pencil and a cheque, Mr Swindley spoke of the quality of Miss McKenzie's work and her service to the firm. Members of the staffs of the Public Trust and the T. and G. offices were also present, and for them a chromium plated bedroom clock was presented by Mr R. S. A. Hopkins. MAGISTRATE'S COURT Frank William Kitto. an old age pensioner, of Herbert, was convicted and fined 10s, an a charge of drunkenness heard before Mr W. S. Crombie. OAMARU, September 26. The Waipahi is expected to-morrow to load out the same day for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, via ports. The Waipiata will load here for Wellington and Auckland, via ports, on Saturday, October 8.
The Wainui will load on Wednesday, September 28, for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne, via ports. The Karetu is due to sail from Sydney about September 28 for Bluff, Dunedin, Oamaru. Timaru, and Lyttelton: The New-Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Middlesex will load at Oamaru on October 17 refrigerated and general cargo for London and West Coast 'United Kingdom ports.
