SCHOOL RADIO SYSTEM
♦ INSTALLATION AT ST. ALBANS Enterprise has been shown by the committee of the St. Albans School in installing the largest school radio and public-address system in the South Island. Fourteen loud-speakers in the classrooms are now connected to an amplifier in the headmaster’s office from which can be relayed speech, gramophone records, or radio programmes. The headmaster from his office can speak to all or any one of the. classrooms by microphone, and marches can be played for drill. All the. National Broadcasting Service’s Educational sessions will be relayed and the outfit will be used for massed physical drill and folk-dancing. Said to be an improvement on the Fendalton School system, the new apparatus at St. Albans employs 2000 yards of cable suspended on “carrier” wires to take the strain in high winds, and the most relnote class-room in the furthest corner of the grounds is served. No unsightly-posts had to be erected. The amplifier will allow announcements to be made with a musical background.
