RECLAMATION WORK IN GREECE
BRITISH FIRM SECURES BIG CONTRACT LONDON, August 31. : The “Daily Telegraph” reports that the Greek Government has placed a £2,500,000 contract for the reclamation of a big area in Greece with the large Yorkshire firm of Henry Boot and Son. It will be an outstanding engineering feat. In one great area the draining work provides for a mountain tunnel two and a half miles long. Boots are the only British engineering contractors at present working in Greece.
The total area involved in the contract is 3.500,000 acres in the Greek provinces of Thessaly, Epirus, and BoOotia. The work is expected to last for seven years. The vast area, which is now under water, will, when reclaimed, be used for agricultural purposes.
