AUSTRALIA BEATS NOTTINGHAM
« —- VISITORS' MARGIN OP 412 RUNS FLEETWOOD-SMITH TAKES FIVE WICKETS (CNITTD PBEBB ABSOCIATIOH—COPTBIOBT.) (Received July 20, 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 19. Australia beat Nottinghamshire by 412 runs. Bradman made 144 and Hassett 124. With 10 first-class matches remaining, Bradman has already equalled Trumper's record of 11 centuries in an Australian tour of England. Barnes and Chipperfield had valuable practice up to lunch, when Bradman declared, leaving three hours in which to dismiss Nottingham. Bradman surprisingly opened the attack with Waite and Hassett, the latter getting a wicket with his first ball in England. The spin bowlers, O'Reilly, Fleet-wood-Smith, and Ward, however, did the major portion of the bowling and routed the county in 135 minutes. Hardstaff alone batted with skill. He cut and' drove confidently and reached 50 in 70 minutes. Australia won with three-quarters of an hour to spare. Hardstaff batted 105 minutes and scored five boundaries. GIBB OUT OF TEST TEAM PRICE TO BE WICKET-KEEPER FOR ENGLAND LONDON, July 19. P. A. Gibb, of Cambridge University, is unable to play for England in the fourth test because of an injury. He will be replaced, as wicket-keeper, by W. Price, of Middlesex. Price, 36 years of age, has long been regarded as one of the best wicket-keepers in England and unlucky to miss higher honours earlier. Only last season he set up a new wicket-keeping record for the number of catches in one innings—seven against Yorkshire. He is also a solid and consistent opening batsman for his county, and in one season recently passed 1000 runs. Playing in county cricket, W. R. Hammond reached 2000 runs for the season, just two hours after Bradman, playing at Notts, had completed his 2000 runs.
