COALMINE STRIKE ENDED
— ♦ SOUTHLAND DISPUTE TO GO TO ARBITRATION COURT (rasas association telegeams.) INVERCARGILL, July 4. The Ohai coalmine strike ended on Saturday with an agreement by the owners and miners to refer the dispute concerning the period of the award to the Arbitration Court at Dunedin to-morrow. Both parties agreed to accept the Court’s decision as binding. About 400 men resumed work to-day. Negotiations between the parties were conducted by the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie). The shortage of coal had become very acute in parts of Southland and some merchants in the city were restricting household orders to one bag.
