SLANDER ACTION AGAINST MAYOR

DEFENCE FILED IN COURT (mss AssooixTiov TEiaaiix.) INVERCARGILL, June 24. A defence to the writ of Alfred William Jones, claiming £SOO damages from John Miller, Mayor of Invercargill, for alleged slander, was filed in the Supreme Court to-day. The writ was served on the Mayor on June 13, and the action arose from some alleged remarks made by the Mayor at a meeting of the Invercargill City Council, of which Jones is a member, on June 7.
