MUNICIPAL MILK SUPPLY
PROVISION IN ENABLING BILL FOR REFERENDUM Early consideration is to be given by the Christchurch City Council to the completion of the bill seeking the municipalisation of the milk supply in and near the city. At Its next meeting the council will be asked to approve the inclusion in the bill of a clause providing lor the holding of a poll to decide whether the industry is to be controlled by the municipality. This is in accordance with the election promise of the Labour Party. The proposal to be placed before the council is not likely to prove contentious, for the council in its last term agreed that a referendum should be held and Citizens’ Association candidates in the election campaign expressed their agreement with this course.
