OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, June 23, The weather torecast tor Canterbury and Marlborough issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of . issue is as follows: Light south-westerly winds, becoming variable and later tending to northerly. Weather line. Temperatures cold, with sharp frosts. Seas slight to moderate. * WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of th- South Island is:— Light to moderate winds, with ' soutn - easterlies predominating. Weather fine. Cold nignt temperatures, with some frosts.' Seas slight to moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;— Some scattered light showers at first between Cape Paliiser and East Cape, but improving, and elsewhere fair to line. Temperatures cold, with some sharp frosts. An anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and is moving on to New ' Zealand, where barometers are rising. Pressure has commenced to fall again over Eastern Australia.

Winds—Southerly, strong at first in Cook Strait, the South Taranaki Bight, and between Cape Palliser and East Cape, but decreasing, and elsewhere light to moderate; becoming variable to-morrow over the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough between Kaikoura and East Cape, and rather rough north of Farewell Spit, but decreasing, and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate southerly winds, becoming ‘variable. Seas moderate, but decreasing. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After the storm of Wednesday, the eather in Christchurch improved yesterday. Conditions were showery until the late afternoon and the sky cleared during the evening. A cold southwesterly wind blew all day, decre: sing in force as the day advanced. The maximum temperature during the day was 43.3 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and a light south-west wind was blowing. The temperature was 37 degrees. The barometer was steady at 30.39 in. Meteorological observations taken at the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch, on June 23: 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Barometer .. .. 30.168 30.190 Rising. Steady.

IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Fine sunny weather, with light cloud and a light to fresh southerly wind, was experienced during the day. The maximum temperature was 55 degrees. The barometer rose steadily, the reading at S p.m. being 30.00 inches. Wellington—The weather yesterday was changeable, with occasional shovers, especially in eastern suburbs, There were frequent spells of sunshine, however. A strong southerly wind prevailed. The maximum temperature was 45.0 degrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer reading was 30.098 inches. Dunedin—Conditions were milder yesterday, and there was a clear sky for the greater part of the time. The maximum temperature was 47 degrees, and the barometer rose to 30.31 inches.
