SOCIAL AT ST. LUKE’S SCHOOLROOM

MR H. E. DENT HONOURED

Many friends of Mr H. E. Dent, who will leave for England shortly, attended the social arranged by his mother. Mrs A. C. Dent, in St. Luke’s schoolroom on Saturday night. An excellent programme was presented, the organisers being Miss J. Marquet, Miss B. Wellwood. and Mr Winston Nicholson, who also acted as master of ceremonies. An inscribed leather suitcase for air travel - was presenetd to Mr Dent by Mr G. Head, who. on behalf of those present, wished him success abroad. Replying, Mr Dent said that his associations while he had been a member of St. Luke’s parish, had been of the happiest. Hq would take to England, he said, many pleasant recollections of Christchurch.

During the evening Harrison’s orchestra played the music for the dancing. A competition was won by Miss E Moorehouse and a statue waltz by Miss M. Ullrich and Mr J. Wilson.

GOLF CLUB BALL AT KAIAPOI

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION HELD ON THURSDAY

The Kaiapoi Golf Club held its fourth annual ball in the Orange Hall at Kaiapoi on Thursday. There was a large attendance. The hall was attractively decorated in the club’s colours, blue and gold. Tom Robson’s orchestra supplied the music and extras were played by Mr Ray Boland, of Christchurch. An exhibition of tapdancing was given by Daphne Buchanan. The members of the ball committee were: Mesdames R. J. Smith, E. J. Corcoran. W. G. Wylie, G. Aitken, R. H. Tait, J. Anderson, Misses G. Martyn, H. Fisher, B. Wright, Messrs R. Fisher, J. G. BALL AT MAYFIELD \ The annual ball of the Mayfield Women’s Institute was held in the Band Hall, Mayfield, and many guests danced to the music of Cook’s orchestra. Extras were played by Miss Nada Whiting, and Mr L. Lilley was master of ceremonies. A luckyspot waltz was won by Miss A. M. Feriguson and Mr J. W. Kingan. Mrs L. R. Harrison, president of the institute, welcomed members and visitors.
